A while ago I was sophistically explaining how my performances are what I decided to call crypto-ethnochoreography, in which the ethnochoreography, as understood in a kind of 16th century Jesuit missionary context, was inflicted with completely spurious historical and cultural artifacts. As usual, I am completely of my time, and the prefix crypto~ I imagine will be worn threadbare and suffer pop-cultural diminishment of uniqueness, in much the same way as a spectacular landscape is slowly erased into triviality and souvenir tackiness by repeated assaults of tourist cameras and travel agent exotica brochures.

Cryptozoology is the study of animals that are rumored or suspected to exist, but for which conclusive proof is missing, from the Loch Ness Monster, to Bigfoot, and the Abominable Snowman, though it has also revealed animals that are now part of the classified natural world.
Cryptozoology is also a symposium, exhibition, book, and film series. The exhibition looks particularly interesting. Let me give you two examples of artists which have been invited to take part of the show:

With his Urban Beast Project, Robert Marbury attempts to document and exhibit imaginary wild and feral animals living in our urban areas.

Marbury also co-founded the Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists, which is an international organization dedicated to the shared mandate to advocate the showmanship of oddities.
Cryptozoology is taking place through October 2006 at the Bates College of Art Museum, in Maine.
