cosplayers in hong kong

Two nights in Hong Kong, picking up Emile and Paul from the airport, playing tourist across Kowloon and Central, seeing so much art all of it worthy of bonfires, napalm firestorms, infernos, only one show out of so much rubbish including all of the execrable the Hong Kong Biennale, and some onerous gallery crawling past stuff that will see the artists are first against the wall when the revolution comes. I missed Sleepover Psychedelia at Ka-Pok though, but is definitely the best show just because of the name… mmm psychedelia…

One show I did see that wasn’t a giant betrayal of advertising and hype was 曹斐 Cao Fei’s 角色 COSplayers at Para/Site. It’s late and I want to sleep, so I’m not going to say much, except she’s doing something very different from everything I’ve seen in Guangzhou, her work is intelligent, conceptually entrancing, simple yet rich enough to sustain endless viewings, and managed to do the one thing that makes me think someone’s art is good: laugh.
