The 國際藝術家交流工作坊(香港) Hong Hong International Artists’ Workshop has invited 12 local and international artists to be in residence during April. The workshop will finish with a 3 week exhibition in May, and later this month four of the artists, with give presentations and take part in Artists’ Talks.
Twelve overseas artists and twelve Hong Kong artists will take part in this workshop in the heart of old Wan Chai. The event will span a two week period when these artists, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds, will engage each other in a process to explore new ideas and expand on the boundaries of their practice. The workshop will be a stimulating platform for cultural exchange while serving as a laboratory for intensive art jamming. The process and results of this collaboration will be displayed in a three-week public exhibition in May.
As part of Hong Kong International Artists’Workshop, a series of Artists’Talks will take place in a number of art venues during the month of April, co-hosted by various local art organisations. The aim of these talks is to further encourage exchange and dialogue within Hong Kong’s art community. UMAG and the Asia Art Archive will jointly host presentations given by the following four artists on 26 April 2005.

The concept of an International Artists’Workshop, which enables the exchange of ideas and practice amongst artists, was developed in the UK by the Triangle Arts Trust 1982. The workshops have met with great success over the last 20 years. The art community of Hong Kong will now participate in the upcoming event entitled RE:Wanchai –Hong Kong International Artists’Workshop (HKIAW), which is hosted by The AiR Association of Hong Kong.

Nindityo Apidurnomo graduated from the Indonesia Institute of Arts in Yogyakarta of Indonesia and the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam of the Netherlands in 1998 and 1987 respectively. His solo exhibits have taken place extensively all over Indonesia.
Md. Abdul Halim Chanchal received the BFA in Painting from the Institute of Fine Arts of University of Dhaka Bangladesh in 2000, and attained his MFA degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of M.S. University Baroda Gujart, India in 2002. Having taken part in many group exhibits in Bangladesh, he is also a Lecturer in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Development Alternative in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Annie Wan obtained her BA and MA degrees from the Fine Arts Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1997 and 1999 respectively. Her works have been featured in solo exhibitions around Asia and Europe. Wan has participated in numerous residency programmes including: Resident artist at Guldageraard, Museum of International Ceramic Art (2004, Denmark), Studio Artist at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park (2002, Japan) and Resident artist at the Watershed Centre for the Ceramic Arts (2001, Maine, USA).
Amy Cheung gained her MFA in Mixed Media from the Slade School of Fine Art, University of London in 1998; and a BA in History of Art & Fine Art from Goldsmith’s College, University of London in 1996. She has participated in many festivals and exhibitions internationally around the world. Cheung was the Unesco/Aschberg Laureate in 2004, awarded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s International Fund for Promotion of Culture.
